LAB SAFETY GUIDELINEs

1. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times. No horseplay or fooling
     around. 

2. Report accidents or hazards to your teacher at once.

3. Read all instructions before you begin any activity. Take special note of all
    CAUTIONS in the activities and follow your teacher's instructions completely.

4. Know the location of all safety equipment in your classroom. Find out how to use    
    the equipment and learn the classroom emergency procedures.

A. Fire Blanket: over front sink.

B. Eye Wash Station: front sink area

C. Fire Extinguisher: by library door and by showcase.

D. Emergency Alarm: by stairs E. First Aid Kit: main office.

5. Wear goggles (even if you wear glasses ) or safety glasses whenever you work with
    chemicals, or tools. Your eyes are too important to ignore.

6. Handle the glassware with care. Do not pick up broken or hot glass with your  
    hands. Broken glass may have razor sharp edges. Hot glass may not show heat   
    until it burns your fingers. Broken glass should be wrapped in paper prior to
    disposal.

7. Be very careful when working with fire. It you have long hair, tie it back. In the
    event of a fire, DO NOT RUN!! Cover the fire.

8. Laboratory chemicals can be dangerous Always read the labels. Do not taste the
    chemicals.  Do not eat anything in the lab. Always notify your teacher if you spill
    any chemicals.

9. Life science activities may involve live animals. Be sure the animals are properly  
     cared for.

10. Treat your dissecting equipment with care.

11. Clean and return all materials when you are finished with an activity. Make sure
       you clean your lab area.

12. Know the procedures for following the emergency alarm.
